PREVIEWS JD CYMRU NORTH

With the Welsh Cup and FAW Amateur Trophy quarter-finals weekend upon us, there is a little less emphasis on Tier 2 and 3 league action, but nonetheless there are still a number of attractive fixtures on the agenda.

None of the top three in the Cymru North are playing for points, so this gives a chance to Mold Alex and Bangor 1876, in fourth and fifth places respectively, to somewhat close the rather yawning gap above them.

On Friday night, Mold will visit next-to-bottom Llanidloes Town, and the form guide strongly leans towards an Alex victory.

Also that same evening, Ruthin Town must try to stop in-form Llandudno in their tracks.

Back in November, Tudno pipped Ruthin 2-1 on their return to the OPS Wind Arena after an absence of more than a year.

It could be equally close on Friday, but this Llandudno side are the masters of the thrilling comeback and late goals, and on current form might just have the edge.

Saturday sees Bangor 1876 aim to win four games in a row for the first time in Cymru North when they make the journey to tricky Guilsfield.

The teams have met twice at Nantporth previously this term, 1876 winning 2-1 in the league after Guils took the honours by the same score in the WBS League Cup.

Caersws should have the beating of a Porthmadog side left stunned by last weekend’s 3-2 loss at home to Llandudno, where they led 2-1 entering stoppage time.

Port are badly in need of a win after nine losses in a row. One plus for the Traeth outfit is Caersws were the last team they took a league point off back in November.

Bottom side Chirk are another team desperately requiring a victory. Can they get it at home to a Prestatyn Town outfit which were caned 6-0 at leaders Airbus last weekend?

Scorecasts

Llanidloes Town 1 Mold Alexandra 4
Ruthin Town 1 Llandudno 2

Caersws 2 Porthmadog 0
Chirk AAA 2 Prestatyn Town 2
Guilsfield 1 Bangor 1876 1

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Radnor Valley versus Cefn Albion is probably the game of the day in Ardal NE.

Second-place Radnor have returned to form recently, but Albion’s experience should ensure they pick up a point at least.

Builth Wells look a good shout for a home win against Rhos Aelwyd, while the same is true for Llandrindod Wells when they entertain bottom team Welshpool Town.

Llanfair United v Penycae is much harder to forecast, both sides are inconsistent, while an away win at Llangollen looks a decent call, with Dolgellau the visitors.

Llansantffraid Village versus Bow Street has the makings of a good battle, but we take fifth-place Bow to edge it.

Scorecasts
Builth Wells 2 CPD Rhos Aelwyd 0
Llandrindod Wells 3 Welshpool Town 0
Llanfair United 1 Penycae 1
Llangollen Town 2 Dolgellau Athletic 3
Llansantffraid Village 0 Bow Street 2

Radnor Valley 2 Cefn Albion 2

ARDAL NORTH WEST

CPD Y Rhyl 1879’s lead at the summit could stretch to as much as 11 points if they beat Llangefni Town at Belle Vue on Saturday.

On their day, Cefni can be quite a handful, but with the Lilywhites’ new players settling in nicely it should be a home win.

Second-place Nantlle Vale look a good bet to see off Llanrwst United at home, while Pwllheli can make it seven unbeaten by picking up at least a draw at Brickfield Rangers.

Third-from-bottom Bethesda Athletic are much-improved performance-wise of late, but still they struggle to get regularly positive results.

Could it be their day when they host St Asaph City, flying high in fourth, but with a couple of disappointing scorelines behind them?

Pesda might just do it, but Saints are notably excellent on the road.

Hawarden Rangers definitely have a decent chance of building on recent good showings at home to Conwy Borough, while Llay Welfare, who have recorded some great results of late, should overcome the challenge of Y Felinheli at The Ring.

Scorecasts

Bethesda Athletic 2 St Asaph City 1
Brickfield Rangers 2 Pwllheli 3
CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3 Llangefni Town 1
Hawarden Rangers 2 Conwy Borough 0
Llay Welfare 3 Y Felinheli 1
Nantlle Vale 4 Llanrwst United 1
