JD Cymru North: Weekend Preview – 31st March – 2nd April 2023

JD CYMRU NORTH

With third place guaranteed, Llandudno are more than capable of stretching their unbeaten league run to 10 matches when they travel to Cefn Druids on Friday night.

Tudno whipped the Ancients 4-0 at home early in the season and have to be favourites to complete a double over opponents managed by former Seasider Neil Ashton.

Six points from their remaining three matches should be enough to secure Colwyn Bay the title and the Seagulls are a great bet to claim half that total when they host one-from-bottom Penrhyncoch on Saturday afternoon.

Although Bay’s stunning 25-match winning streak ended last weekend when second-place Holywell triumphed 3-1 at the Four Crosses Construction Arena, Steve Evans’ side are too formidable to let that setback distract them from their ultimate goal.

As for Holywell Town, they make a tricky trip to Prestatyn Town.

Having won at Llanelian Road last weekend, Johnny Haseldin’s side need fear no-one and they have the quality to claim a narrow win at Bastion Gardens.

Guilsfield are up to fourth after last Saturday’s brilliant 4-3 success at Prestatyn and they should have far too much for bottom team Holyhead Hotspur.

Just a month ago, Guils were resounding 4-0 victors at Hotspur.

SCORECASTS

Cefn Druids 0 Llandudno 3

Colwyn Bay 4 Penrhyncoch 0

Guilsfield 4 Holyhead Hotspur 1

Prestatyn Town 0 Holywell Town 2

Clear leaders Caersws could face an interesting test when they host fourth-place Llanuwchllyn on Saturday.

While it is hard to oppose such an in-form team as the Bluebirds, Llan can make it difficult for them and my instinct veers towards a draw.

Cefn Albion need to be playing regularly if they are to stay in touch with Caersws.

The fixture list has not been kind to Albion, with the weather and other factors lessening their activity. On Saturday, they are home to Llandrindod Wells, who are sixth and have won three games on the bounce.

The Cefners should prevail, but again it could be a sticky hurdle for them.

Corwen’s results do not always reflect their good performances of late, but it can come good for them when Penycae visit the War Memorial Ground.

Builth Wells can see off Dolgellau at home, while an up and down Llanrhaeadr could take a point off visitors Bow Street if its a good day for the hosts.

Llanfair United ended their long wait for a league win last weekend and can repeat the dose at Rhayader Town, while Rhos Aelwyd should edge past Welshpool

SCORECASTS

Builth Wells 3 Dolgellau Athletic 0

Caersws 1 Llanuwchllyn 1
Cefn Albion 3 Llandrindod Wells 2
Corwen 2 Penycae 1
Llanrhaeadr 2 Bow Street 2
Rhayader Town 1 Llanfair United 2
Rhos Aelwyd 2 Welshpool Town 0

The weekend could hardly start in more exciting fashion as fourth-place Flint Mountain entertain Bangor 1876, who sit second, on Friday evening at the Essity Stadium.

While 1876 beat Aden Shannon’s side 5-0 in the reverse fixture last September, much has happened since then, with Mountain currently on a 10-match unbeaten league run.

Michael Johnston’s Bangor have been unpredictable for a little while now. so revenge could well be Flint’s.

Leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879 travel to Nantlle Vale on Saturday targeting a 13th league game without defeat.

On-fire Denbigh Town only edged a 1-0 win at Nantlle last weekend and Gareth Thomas’ Lilywhites could find it equally awkward at Maes Dulyn.

Llandudno Albion were on a real high after beating Hawarden Rangers in their last outing and they can keep the feelgood factor blooming when they host winless basement boys Rhostyllen.

Llanrwst United might have to settle for a share of the points at home to Hawarden, while Denbigh Town’s quest for an 11th straight league victory takes them to a Felinheli outfit which always makes it daunting for visiting teams.

SCORECASTS

Flint Mountain 2 Bangor 1876 1

Llandudno Albion 2 Rhostyllen 1
Llanrwst United 1 Hawarden Rangers 1
Nantlle Vale 1 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3
Y Felinheli 1 Denbigh Town 2
