It was always going to be a case of, “after the lord mayor’s show” when Ascot finished.
It takes a while for the adrenaline to re-settle, but you need everyday sport to appreciate the really special events.

Talking of backing your opinion, we did that on Tuesday at Ffos Las.
The first race was a 4-year-old handicap. Favourites have a horrendous record in these types of races.
This time, the market leader was a horse called The Cola Kid, trained by Chepstow’s Grace Harris.
Given the record in this kind of race, and the fact that we thought he’d struggle to back up his last run over the shorter trip, we stuck our chin out.
Well, we got chinned good and proper.
The horse bolted up as did every other favourite on the night.
It was a 6-0 drubbing and as much as Ffos is a lovely place to be on a summer’s evening, it wasn’t the most fun we’ve ever had on a racecourse.
But that’s the game. We go again.
This time, it’s on-course at Leicester for their Ladies’ Night this Saturday.
We don’t yet know how the results will fall, but we do know that we’ll be offering a fair bet for anyone who wants one.
