Friday: Horse Racing Preview – Bangor-on-Dee

There will be plenty of Welsh eyes on the action at Bangor-on-Dee on Friday afternoon where Sean Bowen, Connor Brace and Isabel Williams all have rides and trainers Evan Williams and Peter Bowen have parental interest.

Sean is still well clear of Brian Hughes at the top of the Jump Jockeys Championship and features in three races.

His strongest claim for another winner would appear to be on Gavin in the 4.30pm handicap hurdle and he also rides Mr. Mafia in the 3.55 and She Has Emotions in the 5.10.

Gavin is trained by dad Peter and Sean has ridden all 22 winners achieved by his father this season.

The jockey is riding at an impressive 45 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight, with the Pembrokeshire-based trainer operating at 41 per cent in the same period.

“Sean really is flying at the moment, he is riding with so much confidence and I’m sure that is passing through to the horses. I just hope he keeps going,” Bowen said.

The other family affair involves jockey Isabel and trainer and father Evan and their entry, Honey I’m Good in the 3.55 handicap chase.

Honey I’m Good looks a good opportunity for a win, with back-to-back victories in the horse’s last two races at Newton Abbot.

Brace, the grandson or owner and trainer David Brace, rides Mays Hill in the 2.45pm before taking charge of Oslo in the 3.20, both over hurdles.

Mays Hill was a winner at Fontwell in May, with Brace on board, and will be among the favourites.

Oslo will also be high in the betting after a victory last time out at Worcester in June.

Bridgend-based jockey Adam Wedge also has two rides – Sehayli in the 4.30pm and Dr T J Eckleburg in the 5.40.

In the flat, it is the penultimate day of Glorious Goodwood, while there are also flat race meetings on Friday at Newmarket, Bath and Musselburgh.
