PREVIEWS

JD CYMRU NORTH

Hosts Colwyn Bay will move 11 points clear at the summit on Friday evening if they see off a Buckley Town side the Seagulls beat 4-1 away from home back in September.

Bucks put up a marvellous effort in the Welsh Cup at Briton Ferry Llansawel last weekend, losing 8-7 on penalties after a 2-2 draw, and will need more of that fighting spirit to give the table-toppers any problems at the Four Crosses Construction Arena.

Holyhead Hotspur, one off the basement, will really need to start taking opportunities like the one they have at home to Porthmadog on Friday if they are to escape relegation.

Hotspur picked up a 1-1 draw at Y Traeth early in the season and will target one better when they take on a Port team which has lost seven of its last eight league tests.

Ruthin Town entertain Mold Alexandra at the Memorial Fields. Town will have confidence from scooping seven points from a possible last nine, but Alex have won their last two away.

Holywell Town have a 14th straight league victory in their sights when they take on Gresford Athletic at the Essity Stadium in Flint on Saturday (note change of venue and 1 pm kick-off time).

The Wellmen advanced to the Welsh Cup last eight with a victory at Guilsfield last weekend, while Gresford exited the competition gallantly at home to Penybont.

Athletic are a tricky side who can cause an upset against most on their day, so Town will not be taking their opponents for granted.

Second-place Llandudno should have too much power for bottom-placed visitors Penrhyncoch, Prestatyn Town are expected to overcome struggling Chirk at Bastion Gardens, Cefn Druids are a good bet to outscore travellers Guilsfield and Conwy Borough v Llanidloes Town – both on identical points – look a decent shout for a draw.

ARDAL NORTH WEST

Although leaders Bangor 1876 romped to a 7-2 success at Llangefni Town in December, the return clash between the pair at Treborth on Friday night could be closer.

Cefni have improved a lot of late, beating Flint Mountain and Y Felinheli since that loss to 1876.

Nonetheless, undefeated Bangor are top of a strong league and with home advantage should take the points.

Also on Friday evening, a Denbigh Town outfit which walloped nine past Brickfield Rangers last weekend are home to a Felinheli side having a mixed season.

Saturday sees a Flint Mountain team riding high in third visit Brickfield in fourth.

However, the Wrexham side got caned 9-1 at Denbigh last time out and will need to improve vastly to get anything against Aden Shannon’s men.

Second-place Rhyl 1879 will endeavour to make it five league games without defeat when they welcome Llay Welfare to Belle Vue for what could be a tough task for the home side.

Llandudno Albion hope to build on last weekend’s welcomed win at Saltney when they journey to Hawarden Rangers, while Nantlle Vale should have the edge at Rhostyllen, a team they pipped just 4-3 early in the campaign at Maes Dulyn.

Saltney Town, no doubt reeling from last Saturday’s reverse at home to Albion, welcome a Llanrwst side which has strengthened considerably in the transfer window.

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Friday night’s Welshpool Town v Penycae clash is a difficult one to call.

Both sides have produced a mixed bag of results all season so the safest bet may be a draw, although Penycae could benefit from recent additions in the January window.

Corwen’s excellent 2-2 draw at Bow Street last time out may stand them in good stead when they host Dolgellau.

Three points would do basement boys Corwen no harm at all. They can do it, but it could be a tight battle.

Llangollen Town v Builth Wells is another with the look of a draw about it, but much improved Llanrhaeadr can definitely get the better of visitors Bow Street.

Clear leaders Caersws face a potential banana skin at Llanuwchllyn, but the Bluebirds are pretty much favourites each time they take the field at present.

Rhayader Town will greet Llandrindod Wells at Y Weirglodd. The Wells earned themselves a shock 3-0 triumph at Llanfair in their last game, but Rhayader have been looking better of late too and can edge it on Saturday.

Rhos Aelwyd should chalk up a home win over Llanfair United, whose dip in form over recent weeks has made them very hard to trust.
