Whatever Glamorgan are feeding Chris Cooke at the moment, they need to order more of it.
The wicketkeeper-batsman is in excellent fettle as he showed again against Sussex on Sunday as the Welsh county won their fourth game in five in the T20 Vitality Blast.
Cooke hit 50 at Hove as Glamorgam beat Sussex by 32 runs to move to third in the table in the South Group.
In his last three innings the 37-year-old has hit 113 against Middlesex, 46 not out against Kent and his half century on Sunday.
Colin Ingram – who is also in great nick with the bat – struck 48 as Glamorgan posted an impressive 219-5 which the Sharks never looked like reaching.
Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson said: “Chris and Colin are playing a different sport at the moment, it’s a pleasure to be able to watch it, they’re timing the ball and taking great options.”
“These days when you play on flat wickets you know you’re going to have to get 200 to stay in the game when you bat first, so if that’s our mind-set we’ll win more than we lose.
“Chris and Colin are both batting tremendously and we managed to get slightly above-par, and to get it done with the ball even though we were a bit sloppy in the field and didn’t bowl as well as we can.”
Only Surrey and Somerset are above Glamorgan in the table, and both have played one match more than Carlson’s men.
It means they look well-placed at present to build a platform from which to make the knockout stages of the tournament, something they have not managed to do since 2017.
As Glamorgan make hay while the sun shines, Cardiff City are also trying to brighten the outlook for their fans after appointing German-born Turk Erol Bulut as their new manager.
Unless you are a regular watcher of Turkish football – or else took a particular interest in Newcastle United trialists 20 years ago – then you may not have been that familiar with Bulut.
The 48-year-old has managed Fenerbahce, one of Turkey’s biggest clubs, but only for seven months.
Mind you, that’s more than Sabri Lamouchi or Mark Hudson lasted – Cardiff’s two previous managers – and not that far short of the 11 months done by their predecessor, Steve Morison.
Not that Vincent Tan, the Bluebirds’ owner, is lacking faith in his latest appointment, though.
“I’m extremely confident that we have chosen the best candidate to take us forward,” said Tan.
“Erol has vast experience both as a player and as a manager, having played Champions League football and managed European sides across 200 league games to date.
“This level of experience is needed at this time and I think will prove invaluable to the squad.”
Experience was the key factor in Welsh referee Cheryl Foster being appointed to take change of the Women’s Champions League final in Eindhoven at the weekend.
Foster became the first Welsh official to take charge of a Champions League final, as she oversaw Wolfsburg’s 3-2 comeback win over Barcelona.
No come-from-behind win for Welsh rally driver Elfyn Evans, though, at Rally Italy Sardinia.
Evans finished fourth, and stayed fourth in the World Rally Championship standings, with seven rounds still to go.
It was a good weekend, though, for John Cudd, who bowed out as any Welsh rugby players would love to leave the stage – a winner against England.
In his last match before retiring, Cudd – captain of Wales Deaf team – helped beat the old enemy, 21-15 at Cardiff Arms Park.
