T20 Vitality Blast: DragonBet Previews

Chris Cooke will make Glamorgan history when he puts on the gloves for the county in their Vitality Blast match away to Middlesex on Wednesday (4.30pm).

Cooke will set a new mark for most wicketkeeper appearances for the county in T20 cricket when he plays his 137th match at Northwood.

That will take him past the previous mark set by Mark Wallace, now the county’s director of cricket and Cooke’s predecessor behind the stumps.

Cooke and the visitors will fancy their chances of celebrating his landmark with a victory, too, as Middlesex have so far lost all three of their South Group matches in the tournament and are rock bottom of their section.

Glamorgan have so far beaten Gloucestershire, but lost to Somerset last time out, where they did not bat out their full 20 overs in making 153.

Somerset won quite comfortably, by four wickets and with 31 balls to spare, but Glamorgan will look to Kiran Carlson and Eddie Byrom to continue their good form with the bat and hope Peter Hatzoglou comes good with the ball.

The Australian leg spinner failed to make much of an impression on his debut in Taunton, where he went for 50 runs off his four overs.

Glamorgan, though, do have a bowler in form as the medium pacer Dan Douthwaite has excelled so far, taking 3-26 against Somerset and 4/23 against Gloucestershire.

When the teams met last year, Middlesex chased down 169 to win by four wickets with an over to spare.

Glamorgan white ball coach Mark Alleyne says: “We’ve got to be smarter through that latter middle phase of our innings and accelerate with as little risk as possible which is the jeopardy of T20 cricket.

“But this game is high-risk at times and my job is to keep the guys trusting their skills and keep practising the execution.”

Also on Wednesday in the South Group, Hampshire host Surrey at Southampton, with the visitors tucked in behind Somerset in second place in the table.

Surrey have won two out their three games so far, whilst Hampshire – like Glamorgan – have split their opening two fixtures.

In the North Group, the table-topping Bears visit Northamptonshire Steelbacks, with the Warwickshire side eager to make it four wins from as many matches.

The Bears have started quickly, defeating Yorkshire Vikings at Blast Off, Leicestershire Foxes on Friday and Lancashire Lightning.
