Cymru North: 3rd-5th February Match Preview & Scorecasts

With second-place Holywell Town in Welsh Cup quarter-final action this weekend, Colwyn Bay can move 12 points clear at the summit with victory over Llanidloes Town at the Four Crosses Construction Arena on Saturday.

Bay have won 18 league games on the bounce and are unbeaten all season in 19 matches, their first fixture having ended in a draw.

Fourth-bottom Llanidloes are unlikely to stop Steve Evans’ side making it 19 in a row, although the Daffs did only lose 3-2 at home to the Seagulls in November.

Buckley Town have won their last five at home – including a 5-0 drubbing of Cefn Druids last time out – and should make it six in succession at Globe Way when struggling Penrhyncoch visit.

Penrhyn will have been boosted, however, by climbing off the basement last weekend after beating new bottom team Holyhead Hotspur.

Conwy Borough drew 2-2 at Guilsfield a week ago, and Anthony Weaver’s side might fancy their chances of going one better when they welcome the same opponents to Y Morfa.

Gresford Athletic should hold the upper hand over visitors Holyhead Hotspur, who have won just once all season in 19 starts, while Llandudno will return to second spot if they outscore visitors Prestatyn Town.

Tudno won 2-1 at Prestatyn in the league in November, having lost 2-0 at the same ground in the Welsh Cup a month earlier.

Ruthin Town must be a good bet to complete a double over a Porthmadog team they beat 4-0 away last weekend. Town are unbeaten in 2023 so far.

Cefn Druids suffered a shattering 5-0 reverse at Buckley Town in their last game and it could be tricky for them again in Flintshire when they travel to Mold Alexandra.

SCORECASTS

Buckley Town 3-1 Penrhyncoch

Colwyn Bay 4-0 Llanidloes Town

Conwy Borough 3-2 Guilsfield

Gresford Athletic 2-1 Holyhead Hotspur

Llandudno 3-1 Prestatyn Town

Mold Alexandra 2-1 Cefn Druids

Ruthin Town 3-0 Porthmadog

Without a win in six in the league, Llanfair United are hard to back at Welshpool Town on Friday night, even though they did hammer the Mid-Wales Lilywhites 6-2 at Mount Field back in October.

Much has changed with the Llanfair form book since then, however, and their main hope is the fact Welshpool’s own fortunes have been somewhat patchy this season.

Top side Caersws hold all the aces at present and must be a decent shout to win on Saturday at a Builth Wells outfit they thrashed 6-0 at the Recreation Ground last month.

Builth are in sixth spot, so cannot be classed as no-hopers, but a massive turn in the form stakes is needed for them to upset the table-toppers, winners of 10 league games in succession.

Llandrindod Wells gave themselves a boost in reaching the FAW Amateur Trophy quarter-finals last weekend, and this could stand them in good stead when they host Penycae.

The Wrexham side can take confidence, though, from the fact they thumped Wells 4-1 at The Riverside a month ago.

Corwen might be a good pick for a point at Llangollen Town, whom they beat 3-2 at the War Memorial Ground back in October.

Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant v Dolgellau AA and Llanuwchllyn v Bow Street are draws in the making, while Rhos Aelwyd v Cefn Albion could end up the match of the day.

Rhos are fourth and Albion second, but the Cefners won 3-0 in the league clash between the sides four months ago.

However, Aelwyd will be buoyed by their advance to the FAW Amateur Trophy last eight a week back.

SCORECASTS

Welshpool Town 1-1 Llanfair United

Builth Wells 2-4 Caersws

Llandrindod Wells 0-1 Penycae

Llangollen Town 2-2 Corwen

Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 2-2 Dolgellau AA

Llanuwchllyn 1-1 Bow Street

Rhos Aelwyd 1-0 Cefn Albion

After the disappointment of crashing out of the FAW Trophy last weekend, Bangor 1876 can regain top spot on goal difference for a few hours at least if they win at home to Llandudno Albion on Friday night.

Expect 1876 to bounce back strongly with so many goal threats in the side.

Depending what happens on Friday, CPD Y Rhyl 1879 will have an eye on reclaiming the summit when they journey to winless bottom side Rhostyllen on Saturday.

Brickfield Rangers were battered 9-1 at Denbigh Town three weeks ago – can the Wrexham outfit gain revenge at home to Dewi Llion’s men on Saturday afternoon?

Rangers are fifth in the table and capable of good things. It could be a lot closer this time, but hard to veer against a Denbigh side playing so well.

Winning 3-1 at Rhostyllen last weekend meant Hawarden Rangers got off the mark for the season, but they will find it much tougher when third-place Flint Mountain turn up at the Gladstone.

Hawarden did lose just 4-3 at the Essity Stadium earlier in the season, so on that form might have an outside chance.

Llangefni Town against Llay Welfare and Nantlle Vale versus Llanrwst United can produce a point apiece all round, but Y Felinheli can squeeze a victory at Saltney if they are at their best.

SCORECASTS

Bangor 1876 5-1 Llandudno Albion

Brickfield Rangers 2-3 Denbigh Town

Hawarden Rangers 1-3 Flint Mountain

Llangefni Town 2-2 Llay Welfare

Nantlle Vale 1-1 Llanrwst United

Rhostyllen 0-3 CPD Y Rhyl 1879
