Cymru North: Weekend Match Preview & Scorecasts

Fifth greets fourth on Friday night as Buckley Town welcome Cefn Druids to Globe Way.

Druids defeated Bucks 3-1 at The Rock back in October and Neil Ashton’s side had not lost since at home before suffering a shock 1-0 defeat against Gresford Athletic on January 2.

Town lost 5-2 at leaders Colwyn Bay last weekend, so will be keen to bounce back to stay in touch with the top four.

Mold Alexandra entertain Prestatyn Town in a clash of teams in and around the mid-table area.

Prestatyn won the corresponding fixture 2-0 at Bastion Gardens four months ago and both sides have been steady rather than spectacular in the ensuing period.

Mold have not played a league game at home since late November, but strengthening done in the January window can help their cause against the Seasiders.

It is very difficult to make a case for a Colwyn Bay or Holywell Town defeat at present, such has been the fine form of both the top two.

Unbeaten in 18 and nine points clear at the summit, Bay are strong favourites for a win at Chirk AAA on Saturday.

Second-place Holywell, with 14 straight league wins behind them, have a game in hand on Colwyn Bay and look a great bet to win at fifth-from-bottom Llanidloes on Saturday.

The Daffs lost just 2-1 at the Achieve More Training Stadium earlier this season and are a team capable of upsetting the apple cart, but Johnny Haseldin’s men are favourites for three points.

Llandudno have been prone to the odd slip at ‘home’ this term, perhaps understandable as their regular ground is off-limits at present. On Saturday they host a Gresford Athletic side always tough to beat and we might see an unexpected draw in this one.

With new signings on board, a rejuvenated Conwy Borough could pick up something at Guilsfield, while Ruthin Town can edge a close one at Porthmadog.

Basement pair Penrhyncoch and Holyhead Hotspur clash in Ceredigion and a home win might be the choice here, although a point apiece would be no surprise.

SCORECASTS

Buckley Town 2 Cefn Druids 1

Mold Alexandra 2 Prestatyn Town 1

Chirk AAA 0 Colwyn Bay 4

Llandudno 1 Gresford Athletic 1

Llanidloes Town 1 Holywell Town 3

Guilsfield 2 Conwy Borough 2

Penrhyncoch 2 Holyhead Hotspur 0

Porthmadog 1 Ruthin Town 2

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Caersws are five points clear in top spot and have won nine on the bounce in the league, but Saturday’s home tussle with third-from-bottom Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant might not end up the walkover current placings suggest.

Llan are much improved of late with three wins and a draw in their last four outings, so they will travel to the Recreation Ground with no fear.

Despite this, it is hard to lean against a Bluebirds victory.

Without a game in nine weeks, Cefn Albion will be bursting to get back to action with a home meeting against Dolgellau on the roster for Saturday.

Second-place Cefn will not want Caersws to get any further ahead, so it will be all systems go in search of a win at Clwyedog Park.

Bow Street have gone off the boil recently, so nothing less than a home triumph over Welshpool Town will do.

Builth Wells v Llanuwchllyn could be a real cracker if their last battle is anything to go by.

Back in September, Llan overcame Builth 5-3 in a stormer. The Bulls will be out for revenge, but this is a tough one to predict.

Llanfair United v Llangollen Town has the air of a draw about it, but Penycae should eke out a victory at home to Rhayader Town.

SCORECASTS

Bow Street 2 Welshpool Town 0

Builth Wells 3 Llanuwchllyn 3

Caersws 2 Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 1

Cefn Albion 3 Dolgellau 0

Llanfair United 2 Llangollen Town 2

Penycae 2 Rhayader Town 0

ARDAL NORTH WEST

Just five games in Ardal North West on Saturday, with a few clubs involved in the FAW Amateur Trophy.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 can return to the peak with a point at Llandudno Albion. The teams fought out a corker at Belle Vue recently, the Lilywhites edging it 3-2.

Albion ended a long losing streak at Saltney a fortnight ago, and the confidence they gained from that might help them against a Rhyl side still missing key players through suspensions and injuries.

Flint Mountain against Llay Welfare has the look of a belting contest.

Mountain triumphed 4-1 at The Ring last month, and while it could be closer at the Essity Stadium, a repeat win for Aden Shannon’s men still looks a good shout.

Llanrwst United are a few slots below Brickfield Rangers in the table, but the Roosters are more than capable of beating the Wrexham side at Parc Gwydir.

The bottom two will be in combat when Rhostyllen welcome Hawarden Rangers. Neither side has a win on their amended records.

Will either break their duck on Saturday afternoon?

Y Felinheli v Llangefni Town could be a good match-up.

Cefni beat the same opponents 3-1 at Cae Bob Parry on December 30 and on current form are a fair bet to complete a double.

SCORECASTS

CPD Y Felinheli 1 Llangefni Town 3

Flint Mountain 3 Llay Welfare 1

Llandudno Albion 2 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 4

Llanrwst United 2 Brickfield Rangers 1

Rhostyllen 3 Hawarden Rangers 2
